These policies summarize important practice boundaries. Additional details are reviewed as part of informed consent.
Initial paperwork
All required initial paperwork must be completed before your first scheduled session. If it is not completed before the first session, the appointment will need to be rescheduled and the applicable cancellation fee will be charged.
Cancellation & rescheduling
Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice, as well as missed appointments, are subject to a $100 fee. Late-cancellation and no-show fees are not billable to insurance.

Scope of practice
Serena Counseling PLLC provides outpatient individual and family psychotherapy services for adolescents, adults, and seniors whose needs can be appropriately addressed in an outpatient psychotherapy setting.
Serena Counseling does not provide emergency or 24-hour crisis-response services, inpatient treatment, medication management, forensic or custody evaluations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, disability determinations, or expert testimony/legal opinions unless specifically agreed upon as a separate professional service.
Confidentiality & limits of confidentiality
Your privacy is important. Communications shared in therapy and your clinical records are generally confidential and are not disclosed without your written authorization except when disclosure is permitted or required by applicable law.
Confidentiality can be limited in circumstances such as legally required reports of suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation; situations involving a probability of imminent physical harm; certain court orders or other legal requirements; health or safety emergencies; and other disclosures specifically permitted or required by law.
When disclosure is legally necessary, Serena Counseling seeks to limit the information disclosed to what is reasonably necessary for the purpose. Your privacy rights and the limits of confidentiality are reviewed more fully during informed consent.
